Darrell Mansfield Band – People Get Ready – 2009

This album was also released an a DVD video release. It was recorded on February 7, 2009 at the Orange County Pavilion in California. The title track from this album is my favourite track from Darrell ever and I’ve watched the video (It’s on YouTube) at least 1000 times. Darrell and Eric (Turner) were on it this night in fact of all the live albums Darrell has released I think this is his best one. He covers some of his biggest hits dating all the way back to “Jerusalem” from his Gentle Faith days. He also performs several secular songs including his expanded version of Bob Dylan’s “All Along the Watchtower”. This is a must listen if you’re a fan of Darrell and in my opinion is probably his best album ever.

Rob Cassels Band – Classics Anthology – 2009

This is a “Greatest Hits” album of Rob’s first 4 albums. It’s an excellent collection and will have to do for now as we don’t have any of Rob’s albums in our collection (which is rather shocking actually). Rob tells me he was influence by Joe Cocker, Leon Russell, Allman Bros., James Gang etc. Most often his vocals are compared to Joe Cocker which i agree but I hate comparing musicians. Sometimes I wonder wouldn’t it be more appropriate to say Joe Cocker sounds a lot like Rob Cassels. Anyway the release of Kamikaze Christian attracted the attention of Gary Paxton which certainly helped with the Bands future. Rob’s guitarist for his first 2 albums was Steve Morse who went on to play with Deep Purple. Rob had 4 albums from 1979 to 1988 giving us some of the best Christian music of the 80’s. Rob has continued to perform and tour and I have linked his web page below where you can buy his music.

Daniel Band – On Rock (Collector’s Edition) – 2009

This was the first album from Daniel Band and what an album it was!

I remember hearing this album for the first time. While I already had a Resurrection Band album this release was a different type excitement. This album is straight out Rock & Roll and in my opinion Daniel Band absolutely nailed this album.

It is one of my favourite albums to this day and the anthem “I Like To Rock” was played so often in my car, my speakers could play it from memory when the ignition was off. If for some reason you only want to listen to one cut make it “I Like To Rock”.

Mark Heard – Appalachian Melody – 1979

This was Mark’s second album and his first on Solid Rock Records.

As is typical on Solid Rock albums the whole gang is on the album. I’ve always wondered why Larry felt the need to sing backup on every album (ok almost all) he produced, but I digress.

The album is a fairly light rock affair but Mark does get closer to the Rock and Roll rank on a few tunes. This is an album that will likely grow on you if a first listening doesn’t really capture you.
