Saint – Live 05 – 2005

Saint came together on September 3, 2005 at X-Fest to record this 13 track album. They played a great selection of songs from over their entire career. The production is a little thin in my opinion but in all fairness production on live recordings is difficult and they did produce the album themselves so I can’t really fault them. That said if you prefer the raw sound of a Metal concert then maybe the production is best left as a little rough. The band showed that night that they still had it after so many years.

Saint – Time’s End – 1986

The second album from Saint is often considered their best by their hardcore fans. They definitely turned up the Metal for this album. The only lineup change was the drummer with Brian Willis replacing Mike Lowery. Strangely the band went through a drummer every album for their first six albums. While I personally loved their first album, and consider it my favourite, most never even heard of it. Instead this was their first exposure to Saint. The album cover was a little controversial with it’s depiction of beasts but I believe they were trying to represent “Time’s End” visually with a depiction of the Antichrist, at least that’s my theory. The cover was well received by Christian Metal heads partly because it resembled a secular cover which is also just my theory. Anyway this was one of the original CCM metal albums and deserves a place in infamy because of that. The album was reissued several times over the years. The 2002 version contains Live Cornerstone tracks as a bonus and is apparently very well remixed.

Saint – The Gentiles Demo – 1981

Saint started out as Power Faith in the late 70’s but didn’t last long. It reformed as The Gentiles in either 80 or 81 and this is the demo they recorded under that name. The lineup would change again after/during the change of name to the Saint we are now familiar with. Lucky for their fans the demo was resurrected in 2001 by M8 Distribution and has been re released two more times since then. It is very very rough but is a nice insight into the early days of the band.

Saint – Too Late For Living – 1988

This is the third studio album from Saint. The style is a continuation of their previous two albums although a little more matured. There is nothing of particular note on the album which is not to say it’s not a good album, it’s just that it is more of what Saint fans loved. There are a couple notable personnel situations on the album however. Dee Harrington took over guitar work on this album taking over from John Mahan. Strangely John was credited on the album but apparently did not actually do any work on the album. Personally after listening to albums from bot John and Dee I believe Dee is a better guitarist. Just my opinion. John Perrine took over drumming duties from Brian Willis and I believe this was just a trade off as neither drummer stood out to me. I’m not saying that either isn’t a good drummer just that I didn’t find anything on either album that allowed them to show their skills.

Saint – Warriors Of The Son – 1984

This was the first release from Saint. The first issue was very limited and generally sold at their live shows. They did a tour warming up for Stryper and this is when the majority of these first issue EP’s were sold. The EP was immediately re-released on Morada records and this is the release most vinyl owners have. The album has been re-released on CD a few times with various remastering attempts. The original recording is a little rough around the edges so the remasters aren’t all that good. In my opinion that rough sound suits them well. This is a great Heavy Metal EP from what became a legendary Christian Metal Band.
